This listing is for a handmade 62.75" length 1.25" width Purpleheart Hiking Staff.
This staff is listed as a hiking staff for a few reasons. It has a slight curvature to it which can not be changed, making it unsuitable for most martial arts uses. It curves around .25 inches over its entire length. it also has a knot towards one end that runs through slightly to the other side. Because of these issues this staff should not be used for karate purposes. However, it is extremely strong and stout and would make an excellent hiking staff. Its weight is 2lbs 6 ounces.
(I have not added pictures of the knot yet. Please contact me if you would like to see. It is a very thin knot that is about an inch long. It is filled with epoxy and can not be felt. This is a very heavy specimen of purpleheart wood, Much heavier then average.
The materials consist of purpleheart wood which is one of the most beautiful exotic woods. Its hardness is comparable to hickory and has a beautiful natural dark purple color.
The pictures shown are generic in nature and each staff is unique. The staffs shown are shown in both their oiled and unoiled form, to show the beautiful natural color of Purpleheart. When oiled, Purpleheart takes on a dark purple color.
These staffs may be made from laminated construction or solid hardwood construction depending on wood availability and quality of materials available.
Each is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which causes the purpleheart to have a rich dark purple color. The oil gives it a permanent shine while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
