These are full length handmade Hickory Wooden Bo Staffs. The Bo Staff is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts training. This particular staff is 1" in diameter throughout its entire length. 72" to 66" is the traditional length for a full-size bo staff. These staffs are untapered. The materials consist of solid hickory.
Unless otherwise stated, the wood for our 1" Hickory staffs are chosen to maximize speed for tournament use and for solo use, or hiking, while still retaining the strength and durability of hickory and as such will not be the heaviest grade of hickory possible. In general, one-inch staffs are not intended for contact use. For contact purposes, please see our selection of 1,1/8 thickness or 1,1/4 which are created to hold up to the heaviest uses.
These staffs will either be made from solid hardwood or Laminated Hardwood, depending on availability of wood, and the quality of the wood available.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil and sanded to a fine finish, which gives it a permanent shine and and amazing feel in the which allows the hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff.
