This listing is for Rare flamed Pattern Deluxe Purpleheart/Hickory Bo Staffs and smaller. Bo Staffs are a traditional martial arts training weapon used in Okinawa and in many systems of Karate. This staff is have a maximum full size Rokushaku Bo staff size of 72" down to smaller sizes when available. This listing has all widths available of 1", 1-1/8, or 1.1/4". Please check the variations to see which sizes we may have in stock.
1" Staffs are best for speed and tournaments
1,1/8" Staffs are a mix between the two and can be used for all purposes.
1,1/4" Staffs are the heaviest and frequenty used for body building or contact uses.
These staffs are all untapered and have a constant diameter.
The Purpleheart used in these staffs has a unique rare flamed or curly pattern as shown in the pictures. This is also called Tiger striped wood. In addition Purpleheart which has a a beautiful Natural Purple color, making these staffs some of the most beautiful available. These are augmented with a thin strip of hickory in the center for straightness and effect. Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous north american wood. Purpleheart is a well known exotic hardwood coveted by many martial artists for its beauty strength, weight, hardness and impact qualities. The laminations of the various woods increases the strength of the wood by having the grain structures reinforce one another.
This bo staff is recommended for use in kata, demonstration or tournament uses due to the thinness and speed and beauty of the staff. It is a beautiful and functional combination.
Purpleheart wood is naturally Purple as shown in the pictures. each staff has several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil applied which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
