This listing is for Deluxe Hickory Purpleheart Laminated Staffs. Jo Staffs are a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Martial Arts. Both are made with Hickory on the outside with a strip of Purpleheart down the middle. These staffs are 1 inches in width.
The materials consist of hickory and a layer of extremely dark heavy purpleheart wood down the center for added straitness and beauty. Hickory is the heaviest available indigenous north American wood. Purpleheart wood is comparable to hickory in many ways and is one of the most beautiful woods in the world, being naturally purple in color.
*These staffs can be made with heavy hickory suitable for contact, or lighter weight hickory which is appropriate for solo uses and tournaments only.
It is finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
The pictures shown are generic and the staff you receive will be unique. The strip of purpleheat in the center can vary from a thin 1,1/8 strip to a thicker 1,1/4 inches.
*The current discounted staff has a tiny 1,1/8 size pinknot. It can not be felt. That is the only mark on the staff and I have discounted the price accordingly. It is 1lb making this staff a medium weight, appropriate for solo use or hiking or tournaments.
