This listing is for extremely rare heavy flamed Purpleheart Wooden Bo Staffs. These particular staffs are 72 inches maximum. These staffs can be either untapered or tapered. The materials consist of solid beautiful tiger striped purpleheart wood which is one of the most beautiful exotic woods. This purpleheart is very unusual in that it is the hardest purpleheart OR hickory I have ever seen. It is denser then even most ipe samples. Which is unheard of. These are 3lbs 10 ounces at 72" untapered. My current ipe staffs of the same dimension are 2lbs 7 ounces. Due to the extreme heavy nature of these staffs, for practical purposes ie. kata or dojo use, I recommend having them tapered to make them more maneuverable. Untapered varieties are perfect if you want something really special for muscle building or extreme heavy uses.
Wood like this is not always available. I have not seen anything even close to these in the many years I have been doing this work. So, suffice it to say, they are a marvel in their weight, and each are some of the most unbelievably beautiful specimens of wood I have ever seen, on top of it.
These particular staffs are made from curly or flamed purpleheart, which has a holographic curly pattern in the wood, which is shown in the pictures, making these staffs particularly beautiful and rare. The pictures are generic and may not match the exact staff you receive and are generic in nature for that particular curly wood. Some sections of each staff will have more or less of the pattern shown.
1,1/4 Staffs are the workhorses of the dojo. They are slower than the other widths but are best for contact for their weight.
These staffs are finished with several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil, which causes the purpleheart to have a rich dark purple color. The oil gives it a permanent shine while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
